Hats off to my student Chan who made his first solo this past Sunday. I started teaching Chan in October last year. We had seven lessons taking us up to the new year, then for various reasons he took a break, which was involuntarily extended until we started flying again after the COVID hiatus. Four more lessons this month and he was ready for solo, at 14.2 hours. <\/p>\n
On his first circuit Chan decided he didn’t like the way the landing was set up, so he wisely went around for a second attempt which worked much better. That was a really good example of pilot decision making.
